Large users of natural gas in Louisiana, often known as transportation-level customers, are able to nominate an alternative provider for their natural gas supplies instead of their local utility. For example, at CenterPoint Energy, customers who burn a minimum of 25 Mcf per day, or 9,125 Mcf annually, may qualify for choice. Under transportation service, the customer's marketer is able to use the utility's pipelines to transport the gas to the customer.
