Winter is hitting hard and dropping temperatures in your home. There are plenty of ways to save money and energy on heating costs, but the greatest savings may be seen with the use of a programmable thermostat. The Department of Energy estimates that programmable thermostats can save you 10 percent a year on heating and cooling your home by giving you the power to set your property’s temperature at different times of the day.
With most programmable thermostats, you can set your preferred temperature for the time you wake up, leave for work, return from work and go to sleep on weekdays. Here, we’ll show you how to do just that.
Press your thermostat’s ‘Set Schedule’ option.
Once in the ‘Wake’ setting, choose the time you wake up on the weekdays. Then, select ‘Next’ and choose the temperature you would like to wake up to.
Select ‘Next’ again once you are ready to move on to set the time you leave for work and the temperature you would like your home to stay during those hours.
Repeat this process for the times you return from work and go to sleep.
Review your time and temperature selections.
