Understand AEP electric service
AEP Texas is a TDSP, or a utility company, which means it delivers electricity but does not supply it. Instead, residents in the AEP Texas area purchase electricity from a retail electric provider (REP) and AEP Texas delivers that electricity to the home or business.
If you do not sign up with an REP, the Public Utilities Commission of Texas (PUCT) will choose a Provider of Last Resort (POLR) for you. Enter your ZIP code above to see rates and plans available in your area and avoid an expensive POLR rate.
The PUCT also sets delivery fees for all TDSPs in Texas. You cannot shop around for utilities and their delivery rates. Everyone in the AEP Texas territory – as well as other Texas utility service areas – pays the delivery rates that the utility and PUCT set.
What to do in an AEP Texas electric emergency
If you experience any electric emergency such as a power outage or a damaged power line in your neighborhood, please report the emergency immediately to AEP.
