Is So Energy a good option as an energy supplier?
Launched in 2015 by a couple of school friends, So Energy is a small energy supplier focusing on providing green electricity to customers throughout the UK.
So Energy was created in the belief that renewable energy should never be expensive energy, so the supplier has pledged through its Low Price Commitment that its tariffs will always be at the more affordable end of the market. Under the commitment, So Energy constantly reviews the UK energy market to ensure it prices its fixed tariffs within the cheapest 10% of all tariffs available at any one time.
As far as renewable energy is concerned, So Energy only provides renewable electricity. It doesn’t offset carbon as part of a renewable gas offering. The fact that the provider only offers renewable electricity, therefore, means that customers can be confident that their energy is truly green, which isn’t always the case when “green” gas is offered. According to So Energy’s website, the electricity fuel mix in 2020 was 62% wind, 17% solar, 14% hydro, 5% biomass and 2% tidal.
As of April 2021, So Energy has a 4.5 rating from just under 6,000 reviews on TrustPilot, with 85% rating the provider as “Excellent”. While the sample size isn’t huge compared to other providers, the percentage of “Excellent” reviews shows that the vast majority of So Energy’s customers are very pleased with the service they have received so far. The company has also been named a Which? Recommended Supplier, showing that it’s also recognised by industry experts as well as the public.
When choosing an energy supplier, everyone has different criteria. There’s nothing wrong with price being your main concern, but many customers have started to look for deals that offer green energy or prioritise suppliers that have great customer service records or excellent perks. With that in mind, So Energy could well be a good option as an energy supplier for you, but maybe not for someone else (and vice versa). It certainly ticks a lot of boxes that energy customers are looking for in 2021 - compare energy deals today to see where it could rank for you.
