What Is JCP&L?

Jersey Central Power and Light, or JCP&L, is a transmission and delivery utility in 13 counties in central and northern New Jersey. The utility was founded in 1862 and became a FirstEnergy company in 2001. The parent company, FirstEnergy, serves 6 million customers and its electric companies, spanning the Ohio-Indiana border to the New Jersey shore, operate more than 24,000 miles of transmission lines. JCP&L makes up a large portion of the parent company's utility area, servicing more than 1.1 million electric utility customers.

Learn more about JCP&L

JCP&L serves New Jersey, a state with an energy choice electricity market. This means JCP&L is not your only option for electricity supply. Due to energy choice legislation, JCP&L customers can shop around to find the most competitive plans and rates on electricity.

Furthermore, if JCP&L is your local utility company but you choose to get electricity supply from a retail supplier instead, the utility will continue to provide you with its service and deliver your electricity to your home or business. Regardless of the electric supplier you choose, the utility maintains the power lines in your neighborhood. If you notice a problem with a power line in your area, be sure to refer to the JCP&L number at the bottom of the page.

Compare JCP&L rates to energy choice rates

JCP&L rates for electricity supply vary depending on where you live or where your business is located. Shop around and compare supply rates offered by other energy suppliers for the best offers. You may find a different plan for supply in your area than the utility currently offers.
