Pennsylvania Power and Light Serves PA Consumers

Pennsylvania Power and Light (PPL Electric Utilities) delivers electricity to about 1.4 million customers in 29 counties. The PPL service area includes the Northeast, Central, Susquehanna, Harrisburg, Lancaster and Lehigh regions. PPL Electric Utilities is a part of the PPL Corporation, headquartered in Allentown, Penn. PPL owns or controls more than 19,000 megawatts of generating capacity and delivers electricity and natural gas to about 10 million customers in the United States and United Kingdom.

PA electric choice enabled the PA power switch program

Deregulation gives you the ability to exert your PA power to switch to a retail energy supplier instead of staying with your utility. Deregulation has given Pennsylvania residents and business owners the right to choose their electricity and natural gas supply. Although all utilities participate in PA electric choice, your ability to participate in the PA power switch program depends on whether competitive offers are available in your area.

PPL time-of-use program

In 2014, the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission approved PPL Electric Utilities' new time-of-use program. The time-of-use program offers customers the option to have PPL electric rates vary depending on the time of day you use your electricity. This program partners with electric generation suppliers to encourage participating customers to reduce electricity use during high-cost and high-demand hours of the day and switch their usage to hours when the demand for electricity is lower and cheaper (off-peak hours). Time-of-use programs can be great for individuals who have the ability to easily shift their usage hours to off-peak times, such as the middle of the day, because you have the opportunity to save money. However, for individuals with full-time jobs or commitments, it is difficult to adjust the times in which they use the most electricity and therefore use electricity during high-demand and high-cost hours. Thanks to PA electric choice, if this program and PPL electric rates don't fit your needs you can exert your PA power to switch to a retail energy supplier and get new plans and rates in no time.

Compare PPL electric rates

Since you have the choice of PPL electric rates or supplier rates for your electricity supply, it's in your best interest to shop around and examine your options. PPL electric prices are regulated by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission but that does not guarantee they are the best prices available. To ensure you're paying the lowest prices for electricity, you should compare PPL electric prices with retail energy suppliers' prices. By shopping and comparing prices and plans you might find plans and rates that better fit your household energy needs and budget.

In case of an emergency

If you experience an electric emergency, be sure to notify PPL immediately. The utility company maintains more than 50,000 miles of power lines and nearly 1 million poles and towers in Pennsylvania and is in charge of responding and fixing such emergencies.
