What Is NYSEG?

New York State Electric and Gas Corporation (NYSEG), a subsidiary of AVANGRID, operates as a utility, delivering electricity to 879,000 customers and natural gas to 262,000 customers in upstate New York. NYSEG electric and natural gas customers represent 40 percent of upstate New York. NYSEG electricity and gas is available in areas such as Binghamton, Brewster, Elmira, Lockport, Mechanicville and Plattsburgh.

Compare utility supply rates to competitive supply plans

If you live in upstate New York, you may have the opportunity to receive both your electricity and natural gas supply from NYSEG. However, thanks to energy choice legislation you have the option to compare NYSEG electricity and gas supply rates to electricity and natural gas supply rates from energy services companies (ESCOs).

Since the late 1990s, New Yorkers have had the opportunity to compare supply rates and choose to get their supply from an ESCO or their utility. By comparing the utility's supply rates to ESCOs' rates, consumers have the ability to find supply rates that fit with their household and financial needs.

Find the plan that works for you

If NYSEG electric or natural gas supply rates don't fit into your energy budget, you have other options to consider. Choosing an ESCO may seem overwhelming, but energy marketplaces can make it easy for you. SaveOnEnergy.com® can help narrow down your search and find an ESCO that offers a supply plan you are comfortable with.

Report electric or gas outages to NYSEG

If you live in a NYSEG area and experience a power outage or natural gas emergency, contact the utility immediately. While you may have chosen an ESCO for your energy supply, NYSEG remains responsible for maintaining power lines and natural gas pipes in your neighborhood.
