About Bounce Energy

Bounce Energy was acquired by Direct Energy in 2013 and is now doing business solely under the Direct Energy name. Based out of Houston, Direct Energy is one of the biggest retail power providers in Texas and across the United States, serving almost four million customers.

Under the Direct Energy name, Bounce Energy reviews are excellent. Customers note low prices, easy shopping, and transparency among the company’s highlights.

Texas residents have had the power to choose their retail power supplier and rate plan since the energy market was deregulated in 2002. You may be able to save money by switching suppliers, but you will need to look carefully at the different plan options to make sure you’re getting the best setup for your particular household needs.

Direct Energy/Bounce Energy plans

Live Brighter

Offering terms of 12 to 36 months, this is a traditional fixed-rate plan in which a longer-term means slightly lower rates. However, if you do not finish your contract, you will owe an early termination fee of $135 unless you are moving out of your home.

Twelve Hour Power 12

The fixed-rate plan, with a term of 12 months, could be the right choice for those who primarily use power overnight. Daytime rates are a bit higher than those offered by the Live Brighter plan, but you will not pay for usage between 9 p.m. and 9 a.m. A $135 early termination fee will apply if you break your contract for reasons other than an address change.

Texas energy plan FAQs

  • What is a fixed-rate energy plan? On a fixed-rate energy plan, your rates are locked in, protecting you from the often-volatile energy market. But, if you don’t finish your contract for reasons other than moving out, you will be charged an early termination fee.
  • Why does run a credit check? Retail electric providers require us to run a credit check to determine whether you’ll owe a deposit to start service – as well as how much that deposit will be. However, there are no-deposit plans that work much like prepaid cellphones.
  • Who do I call about an outage? While your retail supplier generates your rates and billing, your utility company delivers your power and maintains the lines and infrastructure. If your power goes out, you will need to call the utility company, not your retail supplier.
  • What happens if I move? If you move to another Direct Energy service area, you may be able to simply have your service transferred. Otherwise, provide proof of your move to Direct Energy to cancel your contract without a penalty.

A few things to remember

  • Don’t forget to read your plan’s Electricity Facts Label before signing up. It contains important information including:
    • Price per kilowatt-hour based on usage
    • % renewable energy sourcing
    • Early termination fees
  • Enjoy hassle-free supplier setup. Once your order has been confirmed, your new supplier will set up service with your utility, or transmission and distribution service provider (TDSP) – but don’t worry, there shouldn’t be any interruption to your power during the switch.
  • Understanding your electricity bill. Your local TDSP will still deliver your electricity and maintain electric infrastructure including meters and power lines. Your utility fees can be found as TDU or TDSP charges on your monthly bill. They are independent of your supplier rate.
