AEP Electric in Ohio
AEP Ohio is a subsidiary of American Electric Power, or AEP. Energy customers in 61 counties in Ohio and the Ohio and Marshall counties of West Virginia get their electricity from AEP Ohio. Not to be confused with AEP Energy, the retail arm of American Electric Power, AEP Ohio is the regional utility. AEP Energy sells retail energy plans to consumers in deregulated markets.
Unlike some deregulated electricity markets, where consumers are required to choose a retail provider, energy customers within the AEP Ohio service area have the option to stay with the utility or shop for a new rate from a competitive retail electric service (CRES) provider. CRES providers, such as AEP Energy or the many SaveOnEnergy partners, compete to bring AEP Ohio consumers a variety of supply plans and prices.
Compare AEP electric rates
The Price to Compare is the energy rate set by the AEP electric utility. Consumers who live in the AEP Ohio service area may be paying the AEP electric rate by default or they may be signed up to the supply plan chosen by the government if they are under a municipal aggregation plan. If you live in the AEP Ohio service area and are unsure of whether your community participates in government aggregation, call the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio at 1-800-686-7826 for more information.
If you do not live in a community that aggregates or you do, but have chosen to opt out of participation, you can shop for a new rate from competing CRES providers. The AEP electric company will continue to serve as your utility, but you can look for a new rate to see whether you can potentially save money. That’s where SaveOnEnergy.com can help.
SaveOnEnergy.com makes it easy to compare rates from multiple CRES providers at once. Simply enter your ZIP code to see a list of offers available in your area.
