Learn About DTE Energy

DTE Energy is based in Detroit, Michigan, and has two utility subsidiaries – DTE Gas and DTE Electric– that serve almost 3.5 million energy consumers in total. These are two of the country’s largest electricity and natural gas utilities, according to the energy company site. Although the company is based in Detroit, it operates energy services in 22 states in addition to Michigan, including Ohio, Illinois and New York. Also, it has a number of initiatives that aren’t related to utilities, such as community service projects, gas storage and coal services.

Explore the company’s environmental commitment

DTE Energy is involved in energy production projects that focus on cleaner and safer energy generation. Wind energy is the largest green energy source in the state, so the company has invested its efforts in 13 wind projects across Michigan. Projects include Garden Wind Farms in Delta County, Echo Wind Park in Huron County and Thumb Wind Park in Sanilac County.

In addition, DTE Energy is involved in nuclear energy generation through its Fermi 2 power facility. This nuclear energy plant originated in 1988 and brings power to residents and business customers in Michigan. The company reported that the Femi 2 facility represents 30% of all nuclear generation capacity in Michigan and generates approximately 20% of the power created by DTE Energy. About 15 years ago, the facility received Clean Corporate Citizen status from the Department of Environmental Quality. This means the facility is recognized as a leader in environmental conservation, as mentioned on the company site.
