Ambit Energy energy plans

Secure Savings

Available in both 12 and 36-month contracts, the Secure Savings plan is a fixed-rate plan, meaning customers pay the same rate for their entire contract. Secure Savings is the cheapest plan, with the lowest rates available for customers who commit to 36 months.

Lone Star Plus

Available in both 12 and 24-month contracts, the Lone Star Plus plan is designed for customers with higher usage. With this plan, energy usage between 1,351 and 2,000 kWh is at a discounted rate from what’s available with other plans.

Summer Break

Available in 12 and 24-month contracts, the Summer Break plan allows customers to get 50% off their energy bills from June to September. During other months, rates are somewhat higher than other plans.

Lone Star Classic

Available in 12 and 24-month contracts, the Lone Star Classic plan allows customers to manage their budgets and secure their rate for their entire contract.

Lone Star Basics

With a 12-month contract, the Lone Star Basics is a simple term plan without the base charges that come with many other energy plans. Instead of a base charge, this plan has a higher charge per kWh.

Lone Star Flex

The Lone Star Flex plan is a variable plan that provides flexible month-to-month rates. Unlike Ambit’s other plans, this one doesn’t require a contract. While it has the highest average rate, it could vary with the market and has a lower base charge.

Texas energy plan FAQs

Who do I call if there’s an outage?

Even when you choose your own energy supplier, your local utility still delivers your electricity and maintains the infrastructure. If you experience an outage or notice a downed power line, you should call your local utility.

What happens if I move?

If you move, it’s easy to get your energy service set up at your new address. You can keep your current plan. If you’re leaving the service area or want to switch to a new provider without paying a termination fee.

What is a fixed-rate plan?

When you sign up for a fixed-rate energy plan, you pay the same electricity supply rate for your entire contract. These contracts range from 12 to 36 months and are well-suited for customers who want the stability that comes with paying the same rate each month.

What is a variable-rate plan?

Unlike a fixed-rate plan, a variable rate doesn’t have a locked-in monthly rate. Rates fluctuate with the market, meaning customers could see their rates increase or decrease in any given month.

Why does SaveOnEnergy run a credit check?

When you sign up for an energy plan, you’ll usually have to go through a credit check. You can avoid this by signing up for a prepaid energy plan or qualifying for a no-deposit energy plan due to good credit.

A few things to remember

  • Don’t forget to read your plan’s Electricity Facts Label before signing up. It contains important information including:
    • Price per kilowatt-hour based on usage
    • % renewable energy sourcing
    • Early termination fees
  • Enjoy hassle-free supplier setup. Once your order has been confirmed, your new supplier will set up service with your utility, or transmission and distribution service provider (TDSP) – but don’t worry, there shouldn’t be any interruption to your power during the switch.
  • Understanding your electricity bill. Your local TDSP will still deliver your electricity and maintain electric infrastructure including meters and power lines. Your utility fees can be found as TDU or TDSP charges on your monthly bill. They are independent of your supplier rate.

Ambit Energy electric rates in my area

Your energy rate varies depending on where you live. Someone you know in one part of the state might pay an entirely different rate from the quote you receive, mainly because of differences in utility transmission fees.

Because of these price differences, it’s important that you get a quote for your specific zip code. But you don’t have to do a web search for “cheap electric rates near me” or “best electric rates in my area.” Instead, use the Save On Energy marketplace. Just enter your zip code on the screen. You’ll see a list of plans and prices available in your city.
