Why switch to deregulated energy?
Maine’s deregulated energy market gives electricity customers the power of choice. Residents and business owners can choose from two trusted national retail suppliers to find a rate and plan that fits their needs and budget. From green energy sourcing to multi-year fixed rate contracts, customers are sure to find an option that’s right for them.
Maine energy customers are not required to sign up for a deregulated energy plan but could miss out on savings that the local utility cannot match. If you decide not to switch to deregulated energy, your power won’t be cut off! Your local utility will simply supply your electricity at its default rate, or Standard Offer Service.

Who provides my electricity?
Deregulated energy and utility customers alike will have the same high-quality electricity service from their local utility company – the only difference is the rate they’ll pay. Once you sign up with a new deregulated energy supplier through Choose Energy®, your supplier will contact your utility directly to set up your service.
You will pay your supplier the monthly rate that you signed up for, and you’ll pay your utility for your electric delivery and maintenance. Although there should be no changes to your power during the switching process, if you do experience an outage or other problem, contact your utility directly
